The 2-Day Rule

I stumbled upon a great Instagram post by Layne Norton, PhD the other day. In it, he described what’s known as the “two-day rule,” and I was inspired. This rule states that you never skip 2 days of a habit in a row.

Why? It’s simple. Multiple bad days in a row are much harder to overcome, but if you tell yourself you can’t skip more than one day, you can usually get right back on track. Norton says if you follow this rule, you will be on track at least four days a week, which is not too shabby!

We all have days where we do not feel it, or something comes out of left field to derail us. Just don’t let that one weird day allow you to derail your habit. Of course, if you get sick or have a significant life event, that’s a different story. But, if you try to follow the 2-day rule as much as possible, you will keep your habits and reach your goals!

Try it! Let me know how it goes.
