There’s a well-known saying that says something like “Every house but the carpenter’s is finished.” Basically, what you do for a living seldom follows you home and you neglect your own needs! Being a personal trainer is no different. When it comes to training myself, I have absolutely no motivation. It’s far easier and more entertaining for me to follow other people’s programs. No work for me and I learn something from other trainers that I can apply to my work.
The trouble is that I tend to adjust other programs constantly. Nothing is just right for me. And, why would they be? No one body is the same. I know this. It’s why there is a personal training industry! At any rate, I decided I need to get back to doing my own programming. I started last week! The rough template is as follows:
Sunday – recovery/light cardio
Monday – full body resistance training
Tuesday – mobility and cardio
Wednesday – full body resistance training
Thursday – abs and cardio
Friday – full body resistance training
Saturday – shoulders and glutes “extra”
Each full body day has 6 exercises and between the three days, I cover all muscle groups. I have some compound lifts, unilateral lifts, super sets, and a Tabata, all aligned with my own goals. Each day’s workout is 45 to 50 minutes plus time for warmups, so no longer than an hour.
I share all this to show you how I think about programming. Lots of variables! With my clients, I take into consideration the number of days they want to train, time they have to workout, goals, and current abilities as far as exercise.
I’ll be training this way for at least the next six weeks; if you’re curious about what exercises I’m doing, tune in to my Instagram. I post frequently!
If you are looking for customized personal training, send me an email. I would love to hear from you!
