My clients often ask me to help them identify healthy snack ideas. Because, despite their best efforts, it’s sometimes inevitable that they need a little something to get them through, and they don’t want to eat junk. Here are a bunch of ideas in no order!
Apples and Almond Butter
It’s a classic go-to, packed with the protein and fiber you need to get through a tough day. Pro tip: Squeeze some lemon juice onto the apple slices to keep them from turning brown.
Oat Bites
You can change this up however you like it. You just need something sticky, something sweet, and something crunchy. Here’s what I use:
1 c old-fashioned oats
1/2 c peanut butter
1/4 c mini chocolate chips
1/3 c honey
4 tablespoons unsweetened coconut
flakes
Combine all ingredients and roll into small balls.
Hard-Boiled Eggs
This is an easy mainstay. Make them ahead of time and grab-and-go!
Smoothie
Try one of my smoothie recipes and drive the kids to practice with a yummy, healthy drink.
Avocado Toast
Toast whole-wheat bread, then smother it with mashed avocado, topped with everything bagel seasoning. Try spreading it on a lightly salted rice cake for a different twist.
Baby Carrots with Ranch or Hummus
Raw vegetable of your choice, but I recommend something crunchy!
Meat Stick
If you are truly out and about, you can usually find high-quality meat sticks in gas stations or drugstores. Easy, high-protein, and yummy!
Faux Soft Serve
This is a bedtime snack standby for me. Plain Greek yogurt with a scoop of protein powder in your choice of flavor. Mix and eat! Bonus: Use casein protein powder to help you sleep and build muscle while you’re dreaming.
