No Gym? No Problem!

Worried that you have to join a gym or spend enormous amounts of money on home gym equipment to get a good workout? Don’t fret! Your body can be the best resistance tool you have especially when you need to or want to work out at home.

Compound movements provide the biggest bang for your fitness buck. Try pushups, bodyweight squats, or planks to hit your chest, back, arms, legs, and core. Add weight to your squat by holding a milk jug. You can also use cans of food as dumbbells for bicep and tricep training. Also, don’t underestimate the power of isometric exercises. These are the ones where you hold in one position for a period of time. Hold your arms out straight to make a T shape with your body and see how long you can do that! Or do a wall sit!

Yoga, stretching, or mobility training also can easily be done from the comfort of home. All three are important for health and fitness. If you aren’t sure what to do, consult Google. There are lots of online programs and trainers, both free and paid, that you can choose from. Make sure you look for those who are certified and have experience.

Want to get out of the house but not interested in the gym or online programs? Go for a walk! Walking is the easiest form of low impact exercise. Plus, many local parks have playground equipment or fitness stations where you can use bars for pull-ups and rows. Take advantage, if there is one near you! If you do have some extra cash, invest in some resistance bands, a pull-up bar, and/or a suspension trainer. All three pieces of equipment are budget-friendly and there are enough alternatives to keep you busy exercising for a good long while!
